Pleasant Bay Beaches
What can you expect from the beaches of Pleasant Bay? Well, we have variety! Our beaches are both rock and sand! We also offer miles of coastline without the crowds! If you're looking for a private, tranquil beach experience you are sure to find it on one of our four beaches between Pleasant Bay Harbor and Red River.
Pleasant Bay Beach is located on Harbor Road. It is accessible by vehicle with parking on site just at the beaches edge. A short walk will have you in the sand! Pleasant Bay Beach can be seen from our beach area and even walked to, if you're up for it!
The Church Beach is located further down Red River Road. Take a left at the church sign and follow the road until you reach the parking lot on the left. Once parked you can walk to the man made trail down the cliff side that brings you to the beach area! This beach offers amazing views of the harbor and channel. You can watch local fishing vessels and whale watching tours come and go.
The "Old Wharf" Beach is located shortly after Pleasant Bay Elementary School on the left hand side of Red River Road. The beach of my childhood and mostly used by locals. This beach has no parking, currently only a very limited roadside option. It has a walking trail that runs along a small brook and brings you to the beach where Pleasant Bay's Old Wharf was once located. Years ago there was a cannery here and dock where the fishing boats would be tied up. When the new wharf opened in 1968 (today's location) the Old Wharf was no longer used and the facilities removed. Today it is no longer the once busy area it once was but instead a quiet, private beach area.
Red River Beach is the beach at the end of Red River Road, it will have you driving it until it becomes a dirt road. Continue on until you reach the top of a small hill where you will see a small parking area on the left. Most people park along the side of the dirt road. The pathway to this beach is a short walk from the parking area, located just before it. The pathway involves a small climb down and up with a rope. Some areas of the path are steep and not advisable for people with mobility issues. This beach is a sand beach that also offers a fresh water river that flows out into the ocean. It is a short drive to The Gampo Abbey from here.
